Top 25 Running Books to Please Runners
Michigan Runner Magazine
By Ron Marinucci

“If there's anything I enjoy as much as reading a good book, it's getting outside for a good run. If I had to choose between the two ... well, I don't.
I've been running roads and reviewing books nearly 30 years. At last count, my personal library holds more than 80 running books. And I've lent a few volumes that never did get returned.
So, choosing Michigan Runner's top 25 running books
is a treat. I get to rethink many of my favorites, reread snippets or entire books.”
I Run, Therefore I Am – Nuts!
The author, Bob Schwartz, shows how self-deprecating humor is a necessity among runners perceived by the general public to be, well, "nuts." He addresses nutrition, training, marathons, even injuries in a way that makes us laugh at ourselves, slipping in wisdom along the way. What's best is how easy it is to identify with these stories and simply how funny they truly are.

“The Arc of Oakland County Michigan recognizes people who made significant contributions on behalf of persons with mental retardation. These special awards are presented annually at the Dove Awards. The Arc of Oakland County is a nonprofit United Way agency serving children and adults with mental retardation and other related developmental disabilities throughout Oakland County.
In 2001, Bob Schwartz received the Dove Award for his organization and implementation of both a running club as well as basketball program for retarded citizens.”

“Bob Schwartz was the 1995 recipient of this award named in memory of Frances R. Avadenka, the Oakland County Bar Association’s first female President. Ms. Avadenka died while in office, January of 1987. Ms. Avadenka was well known for her significant contributions to the community and her commitment to volunteerism.
An achievement award, known as the Frances R. Avadenka Memorial Award, is annually presented to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the community outside of the legal profession, not for monetary gain.”

Bob was honored by Providence Hospital for organizing the Miles For Miracles 50-mile run that raised funds for the Institute for Craniofacial and Reconstructive Surgery of the Hospital. The Miles for Miracles run raised over $30,000 for the Institute, which is a resource for advanced, specialized care in craniofacial, reconstructive, plastic and hand surgery and has an area of specialization in reconstructive surgery for the skull and facial regions.
